Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, received Dr. Khaled El-Nesr, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Taghreed Nabil, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies. Also present were Dr. Khaled Abbas, Professor of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology and former Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the project consultant; Dr. Walaa Moselhy, Professor and Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at the Faculty and Project Director; Dr. Fatima Mustafa, Deputy Project Director; and Dr. Rehab Ezzat from the Faculty of Science. The meeting was held to celebrate the Faculty's innovative research project receiving EGP 2.3 million in funding from the Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF), under the fourth call for applications of the Excellence in Applied Science and Innovation Program – ASPIRE Egypt (Call 4), for a three-year implementation period.

For his part, Dr. Tariq Ali congratulated the research project team, praising their achievement, which reflects the excellence of researchers at Beni Suef University and their ability to present applied research projects that contribute to addressing environmental and societal challenges. He emphasized the university's support for scientific research and its encouragement of researchers to apply for competitive research projects and programs, thereby enhancing the university's role in serving the community and supporting sustainable development efforts.

The project is titled:

Green Synthesis of LDH-Marine Biowaste Composites Immobilized onto Kaolin Pellets for Advanced Aquaculture and Fish Hatchery Wastewater Purification (AWP-LMBC)

As Dr. Tarek Ali explained, the project aims to develop innovative and sustainable scientific and technological solutions for water quality management in intensive aquaculture systems and fish hatcheries, through the design of highly efficient, mechanically stable and biologically compatible absorbent materials, based primarily on Egyptian kaolin, while utilizing sustainable sources including dolomite and marine waste in the manufacture of double-layer hydroxide (LDH) materials.

The project also focuses on developing innovative materials that can be used to remove ammonia and some heavy metals from the waters of fish farming ponds and hatcheries, while assessing their efficiency and absorption capacity, studying the kinetics of the reaction and the possibility of reuse, either in simulated aquaculture environments or using samples of actual water.

The project is a model of applied scientific research that combines innovation, environmental sustainability, waste reuse, and the utilization of local resources, contributing to providing scientific solutions to a vital problem related to water quality, the health of aquatic organisms, and the sustainability of the fish farming sector.

In the same context, Dr. Khaled Al-Nasser, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the Vice Deans of the Faculty, and the faculty members, extended their sincere congratulations and appreciation to Dr. Khaled Abbas, Dr. Walaa Musailhi, and the research project team on the occasion of obtaining funding, stressing that this achievement reflects the distinguished research efforts made by the Faculty in the field of applied scientific research and innovation.
