Beni Suef Mass Communication Participates in the International Return Film Festival with the Film “From a String to a Homeland”

Under the patronage of Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, the Faculty of Mass Communication participated in the activities of the 10th edition of the International Return Film Festival through the documentary film “From a String to a Homeland”, directed by Mariam Hamdy. This work is part of the distinguished productions of the Faculty’s students, which were screened within the Documentary and Non-Fiction Films category of the festival. The project was carried out under the supervision and follow-up of Dr. Mamdouh Mekawy, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication; Dr. Nesreen Hossam El-Din, Vice Dean for Education and Students’ Affairs; Dr. Shahenda Atef, Head of the Radio and Television Department; as well as Dr. Ghada Yahya and Ms. Samar Mostafa, members of the department’s teaching staff.

Dr. Tarek Ali stated that the participation of the Faculty’s student productions in international cinematic forums reflects the unlimited support provided by the university to link academic curricula with practical application. He affirmed that the film “From a String to a Homeland” represents an honorable model of students’ awareness of issues of identity and belonging. He added that the university takes pride in its students who employ their artistic and media tools to express national causes and the Right of Return, through an artistic treatment that connects music as a means of human expression with adherence to roots, thereby contributing to building an enlightened national awareness among youth.

For his part, Dr. Mamdouh Mekawy, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, expressed his pride in the artistic level of the film, which was the result of the practical assignments of the students of the Radio and Television Department during the first semester of the academic year 2025/2026. He emphasized that the Faculty’s participation in the International Return Film Festival reaffirms the role of media in supporting just humanitarian causes and reflects the Faculty’s commitment to refining students’ skills and providing them with opportunities to compete in international festivals, thereby enhancing their social responsibility and developing their professional and creative vision.
