"Combating Gender-Based Violence" A seminar organized by the Unit for Combating Violence Against Women at Beni Suef University

Under the patronage of Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit, in cooperation with the Faculty of Nursing, organized a seminar for the faculty members entitled "Combating Gender-Based Violence: 16-Day Campaign" under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Nagi, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Hanan El-Zeblawy Hassan, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Dr. Ghada Atef, Director of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit. The seminar was attended by Dr. Jumana Ramadan, Deputy Director of the Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at the University, Colonel Ahmed Gamal, Director of the Human Rights Department at Beni Suef Security Directorate, Dr. Shaima Karam, Director of Women's Affairs at the Governorate General Office, Ms. Laila Abu Aql, a cassation lawyer and member of the National Council for Women, His Eminence Sheikh Khalaf Ismail; Sheikh Mahmoud Mustafa, Preaching District of Beni Suef, and Dr. Hiam Ali, Faculty of Mass Communication, Nahda University.
The symposium comes in the belief of Beni Suef University’s role in spreading and raising awareness and creating a supportive public opinion everywhere to bring about change and oppose all forms of violence against women and girls, and to shed light on this issue and call on the local and international community to seek radical solutions to it.
The symposium addressed combating violence from a religious and legal perspective, how to confront harassment, ways to deal with harassment in public places, and achieving a safe environment. The Anti-Violence Against Women Unit at the university also explained the services provided to male and female students, employees, and faculty members within the university, and how to communicate to solve any problem. The symposium also addressed women’s rights and the state’s trends in empowering women and their rights according to Sharia, achieving equality, and what legislation achieves the desired goals.
It is worth noting that the activities of the 16 Days is an international campaign launched by the United Nations to combat violence against women and girls every year. It lasts for 16 days, starting from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day. Many international organizations, national institutions, and civil society organizations from various countries around the world participate in it. The campaign provides 16 days of activity to combat gender-based violence.
