Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, announced today that the university has been ranked 11th among Egyptian universities and 1081st among world universities in the Leiden Open Ranking. The university achieved 8th place locally in physical sciences and engineering sciences, 11th place in biomedical and health sciences, 13th place in biology and geoscience, and 15th place in mathematical sciences and computer sciences.
The university president explained that this new edition of the Leiden Open Ranking is based on the latest data from the Open Alex database. The Leiden Ranking represents a multidimensional perspective on university performance and indicators of scientific impact, collaboration and open access publishing, so that performance can be viewed from an absolute or relative perspective. For this reason, size-dependent and size-independent indicators are constantly presented together in the Leiden Ranking. This prompts us to take both types of indicators into account. As well as relying on open data from Open Alex, and issued by the CWTS Leiden Ranking for a clear and accurate version of data on scientific performance.
The university president also congratulated the faculty members and researchers of the university on this advanced level of global rankings, which clearly reflects the efforts made by this elite group of researchers, and motivates us to make more efforts to reach the highest advanced ranks at all levels of global rankings. Also, he stressed the importance of continuing and working in a team spirit and joint cooperation between all specializations.
Dr. Sama El-Daq, Director of the International Classification and Sustainable Development Office, pointed out that the classification provides more advanced bibliometric indicators for the basic methodology, which are richly documented. The Leiden classification provides exclusive information about the research conducted in universities. The research is represented in publications, and carefully collected data about these publications form the basis of the classification. This basis also ensures the independence of the classification.
