The celebration featured a diverse program that began with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. It also included a documentary film about the glorious October War, followed by a musical performance by the Beni-Suef University Choir.
In his address, the University President welcomed the attendees to Beni-Suef University and thanked them for joining the celebration of the 53rd anniversary of the glorious October Victories. He emphasized that this enduring national occasion will forever remain a symbol of pride, dignity, and national honor, and a testament to the Egyptian people’s ability to achieve the seemingly impossible when determination is united with faith and hard work.
He noted that the October War was not merely a successful military battle, but a comprehensive national epic that demonstrated the brilliance of strategic planning, the strength of determination, national unity, and unwavering belief in the homeland’s rights. The men of the Egyptian Armed Forces wrote glorious pages of history that will remain etched in the memory of generations. The heroes of the Egyptian Army exemplified bravery, devotion, and sacrifice, setting an enduring example of loyalty and dedication to the nation. To this day, the world continues to marvel at the unique military and strategic achievement accomplished by the Egyptian Armed Forces, which proved that the will of the Egyptian people can overcome challenges and achieve victory.
The University President also expressed his deepest appreciation and respect for H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, who is leading an ambitious national journey toward building the New Republic, inspired by the values of determination, perseverance, and hard work embodied in the historic October epic. He explained that Egypt’s ongoing implementation of major national projects and its unprecedented development achievements across various sectors represent an extension of the spirit of crossing the Suez Canal and a practical expression of the Egyptian state’s confidence in its people’s ability to shape the future and achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
The University President addressed the Egyptian people in general, and the people of Beni-Suef in particular, urging them to safeguard their homeland and uphold the values of hard work, excellence, discipline, and national unity. He called on them to make the spirit of October a guiding principle in their lives, emphasizing that just as previous generations triumphed in the battle for liberation, today’s generation bears the responsibility of winning the battles of construction, development, knowledge, and production.
He concluded by paying tribute to the brave men of the Armed Forces and honoring the souls of the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that Egypt remains safe, stable, and proud among the nations.
For his part, Major General Abdullah Abdel Aziz reviewed the key lessons learned from this historic epic. He stressed that faith in God, unwavering determination, and sound scientific planning were the fundamental pillars that enabled the Egyptian Army to overcome seemingly impossible challenges and achieve victory. He noted that these same principles are essential today as the nation confronts present-day challenges and works to build its future.
He added that the nature of confrontation has changed, emphasizing that the true weapon in today’s battle is citizens’ informed awareness, which serves as the first line of defense against rumors, attempts to mislead public opinion, and the distortion of facts. He called on everyone to draw inspiration from the spirit of October through hard work and productive efforts.
The Governor concluded his address by paying tribute to the brave men of the Armed Forces, the protectors of the homeland and makers of history, affirming that their sacrifices will always remain a source of pride and honor for every Egyptian and Arab.
Major General Ahmed Zaki Abdeen then recounted the national epic in detail, highlighting the resilience and determination demonstrated by the Egyptian Armed Forces from 1967 until the great October Victory in 1973. Having personally participated in and witnessed this historic period as one of its military leaders, he shared a courageous episode that reflected the spirit of the Egyptian fighter. He recalled successfully swimming across the Suez Canal in 1968 and planting the Egyptian flag on the opposite side before returning safely, sending a clear message to the occupying forces that Egyptian land would never be abandoned.
He also praised the historic and pivotal role played by the late President Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat and the Armed Forces’ leaders in planning and overseeing one of the most sophisticated strategic deception operations in modern history. The operation confused the enemy’s calculations and shattered its defensive myths. He stressed that victory was no coincidence, but rather the result of a people’s determination and the meticulous planning of men who remained true to their pledge to God.
The celebration concluded with an honoring ceremony for Major General Ahmed Zaki Abdeen in recognition of his national and community contributions. A number of families of the October War martyrs were also honored, including the families of the heroes Ezzat Abda, Ramadan Mohamed Abdel Aziz, Mohamed Ahmed Khalaf, Mohamed Hassan Ahmed, Radwan Ahmed Mohamed, Ahmed Kamel Mohamed, Ali Ahmed Mohamed, and Sayed Mohamed Ali. The event concluded with commemorative photographs and the playing of the Egyptian national anthem.
