Under the auspices of Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, Chinese Television conducted an extensive interview with Dr. Osama Shalabya, Dean of the Faculty of Navigation Science and Space Technology. Coinciding with the historic visit of the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, to Egypt and celebrating the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China, the interview highlighted pivotal milestones in bilateral space and scientific cooperation.
Dr. Tarek Ali affirmed that the university prioritizes supporting and localizing advanced technologies in navigation science and space technology. He noted that this constructive collaboration aligns with the university's ongoing program to send outstanding students to pursue Master's and Ph.D. degrees through five full scholarships provided by China in space engineering, space technology, and satellite communications. This initiative aims to build national expertise capable of tackling global challenges and securing a prominent standing for Egypt in future industries, in accordance with Egypt Vision 2030 for sustainable development.
Dr. Ali further explained that the Egyptian-Chinese partnership extends to human capacity building and infrastructure development for satellite assembly and testing within Egyptian laboratories. Furthermore, it encompasses participation in historic space exploration missions, highlighted by Egypt’s joint development with Bahrain of a high-resolution multispectral lunar surface imaging camera—launched as part of recent Chinese space missions alongside international agencies and research labs from Switzerland, Italy, and other nations.
For his part, Dr. Osama Shalabya stated that the faculty takes immense pride in serving as a key partner in advancing this scientific and space collaboration, noting that the college leverages its full academic and research capabilities to maximize the benefit from China's expertise. He expressed keen anticipation for the return of the five scholars upon earning their advanced degrees, emphasizing that they will serve as the core pillar for localizing cutting-edge technologies within the university's laboratories and ensuring Egypt maintains a solid footing in advanced sciences and technology.
