Beni Suef University Organizes an Awareness Session to Combat Violence and Discrimination

Under the patronage of Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, the University's Anti-Violence Against Women Unit organized an awareness session for students on combating violence and discrimination, in cooperation with the National Council for Women, with the participation of Beni Suef National University and Beni Suef Technological University. The event was held under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Abo El Hassan Abdel Mawgoud, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Dr. Hamada Mohamed, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; and Dr. Ghada Atef, Director of the Unit.
The session was organized as part of the Egyptian state's and the National Council for Women's efforts to raise community awareness of the risks of violence, promote prevention and response mechanisms against its various forms—particularly violence against women—and support and empower women while promoting the values of respect and equality within the university community.
Dr. Ghada Atef emphasized the important role played by university Anti-Violence Units in raising young people's awareness and introducing them to different forms of violence and mechanisms for preventing them, thereby contributing to creating a safe and supportive university environment.
The session addressed the role of the National Council for Women in supporting and empowering women. Dr. Shaimaa Naeem, Head of the Central Administration for Administrative Affairs and Coordinator of the Council's Anti-Violence Units, delivered a presentation on the Council's efforts and praised the cooperation between the Beni Suef branch of the National Council for Women, headed by Branch Rapporteur Ms. Narmin Mahmoud, and Beni Suef University's Anti-Violence Unit.
Ms. Mona Salem, Coordinating Director of the Anti-Violence Units, discussed the risks of cyber violence and ways to protect women against it. She also introduced the role, objectives, mechanisms, and services of university Anti-Violence Units provided to students and university affiliates.
In the same context, Dr. Abeer Aboul-Ela, Director General of the General Administration for Research and Studies at the National Council for Women, announced the Second Research Competition for Egyptian University Students 2026, under the title "Technology-Facilitated Violence Against Women," aimed at encouraging students to submit ideas and research that contribute to addressing this phenomenon and developing innovative solutions.
The session also addressed the legal framework for combating violence against women and girls. Dr. Aml Philip, Medical Advisor to the Anti-Violence Units at the National Council for Women, presented the role of Women's Safe Units and the services they provide to women and girls. Ms. Amal Gamal, representative of the Women's Complaints Office at the Beni Suef branch of the National Council for Women, discussed the role of complaints offices in providing support, assistance, protection, and awareness of mechanisms for dealing with various cases of violence.
For her part, Dr. Ghada Touson, Director of the Anti-Violence Unit at Beni Suef Technological University, emphasized the importance of organizing such awareness sessions, given their role in strengthening cooperation and communication among students of the three universities, exchanging expertise and ideas, and promoting community participation in addressing issues of violence and discrimination.
Beni Suef University affirmed its commitment to continuing to organize awareness programs and activities aimed at raising community awareness among students and university affiliates and supporting national efforts to provide a safe university environment free from violence and discrimination. The University will also continue to activate the role of Anti-Violence Unit coordinators across its faculties, including faculty members and teaching assistants, as an essential link in awareness-raising, monitoring, and guidance efforts within the university community.
