In line with Beni Suef University's commitment—led by Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of the University—to strengthen the scientific research system and foster international cooperation, the University President convened an extensive meeting with Dr. Yasser Jaber, Scientific Advisor to the University; Dr. Abeer Moawad, Director of the University Performance Development Center; Dr. Samaa El-Daq, Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies for Advanced Sciences and Director of the International Ranking Office; Dr. Sherif El-Arayan, Director of the Research Project Support and Funding Office; Dr. El-Shaimaa El-Nahhas, Director of the Scholars' Affairs Office; and Dr. Iman Qandil, Director of the International Cooperation Office. The meeting was dedicated to discussing mechanisms for leveraging funding opportunities available through Horizon Europe, one of the European Union's largest programs supporting scientific research and innovation worldwide.
During the meeting, the University President discussed ways to boost the participation of faculty members and researchers in internationally funded research projects and to build a comprehensive database of promising research projects and innovative ideas that can be developed and submitted for international funding. This aligns with the directives of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities to enhance the presence of Egyptian universities in international research and innovation programs.
The University President underscored the importance of capitalizing on positive developments in research cooperation between Egypt and the European Union. He noted that Egypt has become a key partner in the European research and innovation ecosystem, granting Egyptian researchers greater opportunities to engage in international research projects and establish scientific partnerships with leading universities and research centers globally.
For their part, the attendees unanimously agreed that the current phase presents a significant opportunity to advance Beni Suef University's standing on the international scientific research map. This can be achieved by encouraging researchers to apply for competitive grants and develop innovative research concepts that align with national and international development priorities, thereby increasing the university’s research resources and elevating its academic and research rankings.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants agreed to draft an action plan aimed at raising awareness of Horizon Europe opportunities, providing technical support to researchers seeking to apply for international grants, and forming multidisciplinary research teams capable of competing in international research calls—further reinforcing Beni Suef University's vision for research excellence and global partnership engagement.
