Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, announced that the university has issued a report entitled “Research Independence Analysis” for the period from 2022 to 2025, stressing that this report is the first of its kind issued by an Egyptian university, as it provides an accurate summary of the scientific output produced exclusively by Beni Suef University without relying on any local or international cooperation, based on data from the global “SciVal” database.
The university president explained that the concept of "research independence" is a new and unique concept that Beni Suef University has adopted. It means the ability of the university as a research institution to produce knowledge based on its researchers, laboratories, infrastructure and its own capabilities. He pointed out that the analysis aims to identify the university's capabilities and determine areas of strength and active topics, relying on the Qualitative Citation Index (FWCI) to ensure fair comparison between different disciplines, instead of merely counting abstract citations.
Dr. Tariq Ali expressed his gratitude to the faculty members, assistant staff, and graduate students who contributed to this achievement, stressing that highlighting independent institutional capabilities does not detract from the value of international scientific cooperation, but rather aims to present a clear picture of the university’s research excellence, thus opening up broader horizons for quality international partnerships based on accurate knowledge of the university’s capabilities and directions.
For his part, Dr. Yasser Gaber, the university president's scientific advisor and supervisor of the report's data collection and analysis, explained that the findings revealed an estimated 640 independent scientific publications between 2022 and 2025, distributed across 10 fields according to the Times Higher Education (THE) subject classifications. These fields encompass most areas of knowledge and science, including medicine, physics, humanities, social sciences, and basic sciences, reflecting consistent and increasing publishing activity. He revealed that the analysis showed a steady increase in the volume of independent publications, from 152 in 2022 to 178 in 2025, noting that the report is available through an interactive webpage that allows for detailed browsing of the research and data.
