Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni-Suef University, announced that the university has achieved the 746th global ranking in the QS Sustainability Rankings 2026, marking a significant advancement compared to last year’s ranking in 2025, when it placed 1061st. This achievement comes as part of the university’s continuous progress toward reaching the highest levels in international rankings.
Dr. Tarek Ali explained that the university made remarkable progress this year, advancing 351 places globally compared to last year, and achieving the 8th position among Egyptian universities. The QS Sustainability Rankings include three main pillars: Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Governance.
The University President noted that the QS Sustainability Rankings rely on eight key indicators, grouped into two main categories: Environmental Impact and Social Impact—both of which are important aspects for students when evaluating universities. He added that this distinction reflects the university’s commitment to its societal role and its application of sustainability and governance standards.

He further stated that the Environmental Impact evaluation focuses on three critical areas. The first is building a sustainable institution, measured through indicators such as climate action, the existence of emission strategies and reports, and declared commitments to achieving Net Zero. The second area is sustainable education, which assesses academic reputation in Earth and Environmental Sciences, as well as the availability of sustainability-related courses and research centers. The third area is sustainable research, which evaluates research activity related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the funding of research in this field.
Regarding the Social Impact pillar, the University President explained that the ranking places great emphasis on promoting equity and addressing major social issues. The Equality Indicator measures the proportion of female students and faculty members, diversity policies, and support for people with disabilities. Knowledge exchange is also evaluated through collaboration with less-supported institutions and external partnerships. Additionally, the ranking assesses Educational Impact through research on quality education, academic freedom, and alumni impact. It also measures employment and opportunities based on employer reputation and research contributions to economic growth, peace, and justice. The evaluation concludes with the Quality of Life Indicator, which assesses the university’s commitment to individuals’ well-being on and off campus, including research on quality of life and healthy lifestyle options.
Dr. Sama El-Daq added that the university’s progress in various international rankings is not coincidental, but rather the result of positive measures taken over the past period, along with genuine attention to its societal role and prioritization of sustainability and governance within the university’s strategic vision.
For her part, Dr. Sama El-Daq, Director of the Office of International Ranking and Sustainable Development, expressed her pride in this achievement, noting that the university’s advancement in the QS Sustainability Rankings reflects its commitment to promoting sustainability and sustainable practices. She affirmed that these positive results reflect the efforts of the university's team—including faculty members and students—in creating a sustainable educational environment. She added that the university will continue to develop its strategies to enhance its efforts in environmental and social impact, and to apply best global practices in this regard, in order to elevate the quality of higher education and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Sama also emphasized that governance plays a pivotal role in achieving sustainable development, as it provides the framework that ensures transparency and effective participation in decision-making. Through the implementation of governance principles, resources can be directed toward development projects that balance environmental, social, and economic dimensions, thereby enhancing the long-term sustainability of environmental initiatives.
