Dr. Tariq Ali also noted that the conference focused on three main themes: mechanisms for using data in strategic planning and policy formulation, guiding science policies to achieve sustainable development, and supporting decision-makers in the fields of science and technology with data. The conference also included a panel discussion entitled "The Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation Observatories in Supporting Decision-Makers," with the participation of a select group of Arab leaders and experts.
Furthermore, the conference addressed a number of national experiences and policies in the field of monitoring and evaluating science, technology, and innovation, presented by representatives of the participating Arab countries. Within the framework of scientific diplomacy, the opening session witnessed the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Higher Council for Science and Technology in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This agreement is a result of the efforts of the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils to promote Arab integration in the fields of science and innovation, and to activate scientific diplomacy as a means of bringing Arab research institutions closer together and unifying their visions towards a sustainable regional system.
