Ramadan Crescent Sighting at the College of Navigation and Space Technology

Under the patronage of Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, and in a religious and scientific atmosphere, the Faculty of Navigation Sciences and Space Technology organized, on Friday, February 28, 2025, an event to survey the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan, in the presence of a committee from the Egyptian Dar Al-Iftaa, which included His Eminence Sheikh Dhu Al-Noorain Muhammad, His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed Maher Amer, and His Eminence Sheikh Hudhayfah Muhammad.
The event began with the recitation of ayat from the Holy Quran, followed by a speech by Prof. Osama Shalaby, Dean of the College, delivered on his behalf by Prof. Manal Gamal El-Din, Vice Dean of the College for Community Service and Environmental Development, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Heba Allah Mohamed, Vice Dean of the College for Student Affairs.
The representative of the Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa also gave a speech in which he discussed the importance of observing the crescent moon according to Islamic principles, followed by a distinguished scientific lecture entitled “Observing the Crescent Moon between Islamic Law and Science,” delivered by Dr. Ahmed Badawi Yassin , supervisor of the observation team, in which he reviewed the scientific and astronomical aspects of observing the crescent moon.
The event was attended by a group of talented students from various secondary schools, with the participation of Mr. Nasser Sayed Abdel Qader, Smart Learning Officer at the Education Directorate.
The event concluded with a practical observation session, where the crescent was monitored using an electro-optical telescope, confirming the college’s role as a specialized center in astronomical observation operations, while emphasizing that the college is a scientific body for observation and not a fatwa committee.
