Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, announced that the Faculty of Navigation Sciences and Space Technology will investigate the sighting of the crescent moon of the holy month of Ramadan for the year 1446 AH, on Friday, February 28, in cooperation with the Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa.
The President of the University indicated that the Faculty of Navigation Sciences, in cooperation with the Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa, is surveying the crescent moons of the first Arab months from the faculty's headquarters using an electro-optical telescope under the supervision of the faculty's observation team and in the presence of a committee from the Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa in Cairo. The faculty is one of the observation and investigation committees sent by the Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa to cover the sighting at the republic level, indicating that the university is always keen to provide the faculty with the latest astronomical telescopes that help it conduct various surveys.
Dr. Osama Shalaby, Dean of the College, explained that there is a committee from the College under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Badawi Yassin in the Space Sciences Department and supervisor of the monitoring team to prepare reports on the sighting of the crescent moon of the Arab months in cooperation with the Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa, and that the monitoring committee trains students on using the telescope to monitor and track satellites, as the Arab months have been surveyed a lot during the past years. It is worth noting that the College is not a fatwa authority, but rather a scientific authority that follows the Sunnah of the Prophet in observing the crescent moon as our noble Messenger commanded us, indicating that the College is one of the monitoring committees that contribute to observing the holy month and the Arab months, stressing that the College has all respect and appreciation for the Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa, represented by His Eminence the Grand Mufti of Egypt, as it is the only authority that has the final opinion on the dates of the beginnings and ends of the Hijri months.
