A field visit for students of the Faculty of Navigation Sciences, Beni Suef University, to the Astronomical Research Institute and the Katameya Observatory

Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, announced that the Faculty of Navigation Sciences and Space Technology is organizing an educational field visit to the Institute of Astronomical and Geophysical Research “Helwan Observatory” and the Katameya Astronomical Observatory, where the visit took place under the supervision of Dr. Osama Shalabia, Dean of the Faculty.
The university president explained that the visit to the observatory included giving an introductory lecture about the history of the Helwan Observatory, the development of the institute, and the most prominent specialized scientific activities that it carries out, in addition to inspecting the earthquake building, where a group of distinguished lectures were given during the tour and explain the applications of the earth’s magnetic field and its use in land measurements, and how to predict earthquakes, as stations and buildings were established and distributed across the governorates of Egypt to measure shifts by using GPS. The visit also included going to the Katameya Astronomical Observatory and learning about the provided services , like know the Katameya Observatory telescope through a lecture on the use of the telescope and its features. .
For his part, Dr. Osama Shalabiya, Dean of the College, extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to the President of the National Institute for Astronomical Research, for the good cooperation and the opportunity to train the College’s students in order to ensure the building of human cadres at the highest level in the field of navigation sciences and space technology
