Under the patronage of Dr. Mansour Hassan, University President, the Faculty of Nursing at Beni Suef University organized an awareness symposium on “Combating Female Genital Mutilation”, in cooperation with the Safe Women Unit at Beni Suef University Hospitals and under the supervision of Dr. Sameh Al-Maraghi, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Dr. Mohamed Nagy, Dean of the College of Nursing, and Dr. Hanan Al-Zabalawy Hassan, Vice Dean of the College for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, as part of the activities of the 16 Day Campaign to Combat Violence against Women. Dr. Mahmoud Hamdi, teacher of obstetrics and gynecology at the College of Medicine, and Dr. Asma Zidan, teacher of psychiatry at the College of Medicine, lectured at the symposium. .
The symposium discussed the psychological effects and complications associated with female circumcision, and the efforts made by the state to combat circumcision, as well as the awareness role that falls on educational and university institutions to educate the employees of these institutions and their families about the seriousness of the issue of circumcision and its psychological and health harms to females, whose impact extends to the family and society as a whole, as this symposium comes within the 16-day campaign “to combat violence against women,” which is being held under the auspices of the Ministry of Local Development in coordination with Beni Suef Governorate, within the national strategy to empower women in its four main axes, which began on November 25 and concludes its activities on December 10, 2023.
