Prof. Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, announced that the students of the Faculty of Navigation Science and Space Technology today observed a rare cosmic phenomenon, the transit of Mercury in front of the sun through astronomical telescopes at the faculty, pointing out that the phenomenon begins at 2:35 pm and lasts for about five and half hours, and it will not be repeated again until 13 November 2032.
The University President said that the college has previously trained students to observe the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan with the participation of representatives from the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta using the latest high-resolution space telescopes, which are equipped with programs to guide, monitor and film any space object, through a television screen, and surveillance cameras to be seen with the naked eye at the same time . The Faculty of Navigation is the first Egyptian and Arab college specialized in the fields of space navigation and applications of space technology.
It should be noted that the follow-up of the phenomenon is only done by using astronomical telescopes reflecting the image of the sun on a flat screen. It is dangerous to look at the sun directly with the naked eye as it occurs.
