Earthquakes between fact and fiction, a symposium of earth sciences in Beni Suef

The Faculty of Earth Sciences at Beni Suef University, under the auspices of Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of the University, organized a symposium entitled "Earthquakes between Truth and Fiction" as part of the activities of the Environmental Week under the supervision of Dr. Sameh El-Maraghi, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Dr. Ibrahim Abdel-Gayed, Dean of the Faculty of Earth Sciences. Where Dr. Ahmed Mostafa El-Sayed Abdel-Gawad, Professor and Head of the Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University, lectured at the symposium, in the presence of Dr. Safia Mohamed Ali, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, a number of faculty members, and students.
Dr. Mansour Hassan confirmed that the university is keen to hold many specialized seminars to educate students in their field of study and to host professors and specialists from various universities and research centers to link the academic side to the practical, and raise awareness of what is happening on the ground, and keep up with everything new that science reaches to serve humanity.
The symposium dealt with several main axes, including the definition of earthquakes and their causes, classification of earthquakes according to their strength and intensity, earthquake belts worldwide and their map, the location of Egypt in relation to earthquakes, precautionary lines and necessary recommendations when earthquakes occur, and the role of the state in establishing specialized institutions, institutes and observatories to study earthquakes and natural disasters. In addition to a lecture entitled "Towards a New Industrial Mining Map of the Nation" with an explanation of a part about the metal industry, especially phosphate and iron.
