Higher education and scientific research:
- A research call to support projects in the field of "Basic Science"
Funding up to EGP 3 million for projects in the fields of physics and chemistry.
Funding up to EGP 2 million for projects in the field of mathematics.
In light of the policy of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on encouraging scientific research in the field of basic science, building innovative research groups capable of facing challenges, and bridging the technological gap, which will contribute to building modern Egypt.
The Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority (STDF) announced the opening of the door to apply for the second call for the "Basic Science" grant, as one of the competitive funding mechanisms offered by the state to Egyptian scientists and researchers.
Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that this appeal aims to benefit from research outputs in the field of basic science at universities, centers, institutes and research bodies, as well as developing innovative basic research in Egypt, and supporting local expertise in this field to enhance its competitiveness at the regional and international levels.
The general conditions of the appeal include funding the best research proposals for distinguished Egyptian researchers in the fields of basic science (mathematics - chemistry - physics) for a period of no less than two years and no more than three years, the principal investigator must be of Egyptian nationality, and be affiliated with a research body in Egypt, and holds a PhD, and has experience in the research field, with funding of up to 2 million pounds for projects submitted in the field of mathematics, and with funding up to a maximum of 3 million pounds for projects submitted in the fields of physics and chemistry.
The deadline for receiving research proposals will be Monday, February 13, 2023, at 2:00 pm, according to the detailed rules and conditions of the appeal, which were published on the Authority's website: https://stdf.eg/web/grants/open

It is worth noting that the Science, Technology and Innovation Finance Authority is the main national institution concerned with financing scientific research, technological development, and innovation in the fields and axes identified by the state’s strategic plans. It works to promote and consolidate culture and innovative capabilities in Egyptian society to activate and increase the contribution of science and technology to development, by building an economy capable of transforming science and knowledge into added value to contribute to economic growth. The authority also implements various programs through appeals on a competitive basis to ensure transparency and efficiency to finance the best research projects, and to provide the necessary investments to bridge the gap between academic scientific research and the needs of industry and society.
