Beni Suef University is unique in establishing the first center for environmental monitoring and reducing risks of climate change

Beni Suef University Council, headed by Prof. Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, approved, during its 211st session, the establishment of the Environmental Monitoring Center and Reducing Risks of Climate Change, which is the first of its kind at the level of Egyptian universities, in the context of strengthening the university’s role in facing climate change and in order to achieve the principle of sustainability and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Prof. Dr. Mansour Hassan explained that the center aims to monitor all environmental problems in the vicinity of Beni Suef Governorate, determine the type and sources of these problems, and the extent to which they are related to potential climate changes, provide appropriate scientific solutions according to the type of each problem, and make a map of climatic challenges and all risks that threaten water and agricultural resources and air pollution, as well as making a database of problems that result in negative effects on the environment and directing the registration of master’s and Ph.D degrees in them.

Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Higab, Chairman of Climate Change Committee, indicated that a number of environmental monitoring stations have been established in cooperation to monitor carbon emissions, pointing out that the center is working to provide scientific advice in the field of wastewater treatment, and environmental impact assessment for all development activities and projects at the governorate level.
It is worth mentioning that the university president issued a decision to form a committee headed by Dr. Mumtaz Higab and the membership of 11 faculty members from the faculties of Science and Graduate Studies for Advanced Science, Arts, Engineering and Medicine to develop a vision that includes methods and mechanisms for preserving the environment.
