Prof. Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, announced today, Tuesday, that a joint scientific team from the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science, in cooperation with the Petroleum Research Institute, has won the funding of a research project entitled “Ultra-efficient filtration of dyes and heavy metals from industrial wastewater using an innovative system of serpentine/poly membranes'', with a value of 199 thousand pounds from the Authority of Science, Technology and Innovation (STDF).
Prof. Dr. Mansour explained that the idea of ??the project revolves around the creation of nanometer films that are highly efficient in the adsorption of heavy elements and dyes, and these films will be produced based on natural materials ''serpentine'', which is abundantly available in Egypt in the Eastern Desert, in addition to the waste of synthetic fibers resulting from the textile and carpet industries.
Beni Suef University President stressed that the project is in line with the path of the state’s sustainable development plan and Egypt’s Vision 2030 in terms of providing new, unconventional water resources to meet the challenges of water security in Egypt, as the main idea of ??the project depends on the use of cheap materials that are available in large quantities in Egypt such as serpentine and textile fiber exhaust in the synthesis of ultrafiltration membranes.
The research team consists of Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Zayed, Assistant Professor at the Department of Geology and the main researcher of the project, Dr. Mahmoud Sayed Mustafa Abdel Wahed, Assistant Professor at the same department, researcher / Mustafa Abdel-Azim Masoud, Assistant Lecturer at the department, and researcher / Bahaa Saleh Shaaban, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Textile Technology, College of Technology and Education, with the participation of Dr. Mahmoud Fathi Mubarak, Petroleum Research Institute, and the project will be implemented through the Applied Minerals and Water Research Laboratory of the Geology Department, Faculty of Science, Beni Suef University.
