Prof. Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, announced today that a joint scientific team from the Department of Geology at the College of Science, in cooperation with the Petroleum Research Institute has won a finance for research project entitled Quaternary Treatment to Remove Heavy Metals and Ammonia ions from Wastewater Using Weathered Basalt Ceramic Membranes at a value of one million and 500 thousand EGP from the Science, Technology and Innovation Authority (STDF).

The idea of ??the project revolves around the use of basalt ore in combination with amino polymers to produce ultrafiltration membranes to remove ammonia and heavy salts from treated wastewater in the mixed wastewater plants in Assiut Governorate (the triplet treatment plant in Arab Al-Madabegh).

Prof. Dr. Mansour emphasized that the project is in line with the path of the country's sustainable development plan and Egypt's vision 2030 in terms of providing new non-traditional water resources to meet the challenges of water security in Egypt, as the main idea of ??the project depends on the use of cheap materials and available in large quantities in Egypt, such as basalt in the synthesis of Ultra-filtration membranes as a quadruple stage in the wastewater treatment process.

It is noteworthy that the research team consists of Dr. Mahmoud Sayed Mustafa Abdel Wahid, Assistant Professor at Geology Department and the main researcher of the project, and Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Zayed, Assistant Professor at the same department, and researcher / Mustafa Abdel-Azim Masoud, Assistant Lecturer at the department, and the project will be implemented through the Applied Minerals and Water Research Laboratory of the Geology Department at the Faculty of Science, Beni Suef University.
