Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Prof. Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Hani Ghneim, Governor of Beni Suef, inaugurated the operation of the Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and its research facilities, members of the Senate and Parliament, Vice-Presidents of Beni Suef University, faculty deans, faculty members and a number of leading and executive figures .

For his part, Prof. Dr. Mansour explained that the institute helps in maximizing the production of medicinal plants within the governorate, and adding a competitive advantage to it, especially as the governorate of Beni Suef produces more than 40% of the production of medicinal and aromatic plants and ornamental plants at the level of the Republic. Egypt is ranked first in the world in exports of Essential oil, praising the institute's advanced research equipment, which serves a large sector of farmers and exporters of medicinal and aromatic plants in Beni Suef Governorate, which is the center of these crops of economic importance and high export value.

Prof. Dr. Mansour indicated that the institute is considered the first of its kind in this field in Egypt and the Middle East, and it has been established to become a distinguished academic research institute and a pioneer in the research of medicinal and aromatic plants at the local and international levels. It targets postgraduate students and awards research masters, professional masters and doctoral degrees, and aims at keeping pace with scientific progress at the world level and contributing to the development of the industry and production of medicinal and aromatic plants and applications based on them, providing various services to meet the needs of society with global standards, providing innovative solutions in that field, and preparing qualified scientific cadres to meet the needs of the labor market.

The Minister of Higher Education listened to a detailed explanation from Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Higab, Dean of the Institute, about laboratories equipment and scientific departments of the institute, which include the Plant Chemistry Department, the Production Technology Department, the Biotechnology Department, and the Medical and Pharmaceutical Products Department, and the minister praised the level of laboratories and equipment.
