Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, announced the participation of Dr. Sherif Ragab Al-Areed, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture, as main researcher in a research project entitled Promoting biological diversity in grain cultivation systems in the Mediterranean basin in cooperation with ten Arab and European universities.
The President of the University explained that the project seeks to achieve sustainable development in the agricultural systems of wheat and some leguminous crops to face climate changes and rationalize the consumption of irrigation water and increase the efficiency of using the targeted crops for the water unit and increase soil fertility and raise the nutritional value and resistance diseases through evaluating the available genetic structure and testing it for different environmental conditions
In addition to analyzing the genes associated with the study and obtaining new genotypes of the targeted crops through sexual and quality hybrids and benefiting from biological diversity in designing crop loading systems and increasing the biological diversity in the soil for friendly microbes and the use of new applications to preserve environmental systems and reduce chemical inputs including fertilizers and pesticides with the aim of Implement an integrated economic, biological model to evaluate sustainability at the farm level. It
is worth noting that the participating universities from various countries are Spain, Italy, Greece, Lebanon and Morocco
