A new medical achievement at Beni Suef University Hospitals... Two complex surgeries successfully removed breast tumors from a child and a woman in her sixties

Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, announced a new medical achievement by the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Beni Suef University Hospitals. The department successfully performed two complex and delicate surgeries to remove a breast tumor, one on a one-and-a-half-year-old girl and the other on a 62-year-old woman. This achievement is part of the ongoing development of the university hospital and its various departments to provide the latest medical and surgical services to the residents of Beni Suef Governorate and neighboring governorates. The surgeries were performed under the supervision of Dr. Hani Hamed, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Emad El-Banna, Executive Director of Beni Suef University Hospitals; and Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Fathi El-Ashqar, Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
The University President expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Fathi Al-Ashqar, Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and to the hospital's cardiothoracic surgery team that performed the two surgeries. The team included Dr. Ahmed Hassan Al-Magry, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon; Dr. Mohamed Talaat, Assistant Lecturer of Cardiothoracic Surgery; Dr. Hossam Atef, Assistant Lecturer of Cardiothoracic Surgery; Dr. Ahmed Nasser, Cardiothoracic Surgery Resident; and Dr. Al-Mudathir Ashraf. He also acknowledged the participation of the anesthesia team, supervised by Dr. Mohamed Moselhy, Assistant Professor of Anesthesia and Critical Care at Beni Suef University, as well as the nursing team, including Nurse Salwa and Nurse Ahmed Shaaban, and a number of support staff members.
The President emphasized that the continued success of Beni Suef University Hospitals in performing delicate and complex surgeries reflects the significant development of the healthcare system within university hospitals. This progress is attributed to the distinguished medical staff, advanced scientific capabilities, and state-of-the-art equipment. He further noted that the university prioritizes the development of medical services and the provision of comprehensive and safe healthcare to citizens, in accordance with the directives of the political leadership and the state's strategy to advance the health sector.
Dr. Hani Hamed explained that the first surgery involved the removal of a tumor from the lung and chest wall of a one-and-a-half-year-old girl, while the second surgery involved the removal of a malignant tumor from the thymus gland of a 62-year-old patient. Both cases are considered advanced surgeries in the field of thoracic surgery and were performed with high efficiency and were successful. Both patients were discharged from the hospital after making a full recovery and their health stabilized.
Dr. Emad El-Banna added that the success of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department in performing these advanced surgeries, especially on a child of such a young age, confirms the ability of Beni Suef University Hospitals to handle the most delicate and complex cases. This strengthens public confidence in the medical services provided within the university hospitals. He commended the efforts of all the medical and nursing teams who work collaboratively to achieve the best possible treatment outcomes for patients.
Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Fathi Al-Ashqar confirmed that the department continues to provide specialized surgical services to all age groups, performing various types of open-heart surgeries, including heart valve replacement and repair, coronary artery bypass surgery, and ascending aortic surgery, using both traditional and minimally invasive techniques. He added that the department also performs advanced thoracic surgeries, such as tumor resection and treatment of congenital defects. He emphasized that these procedures are performed according to the latest international medical standards, achieving outstanding results that reflect the department's expertise, capabilities, and advanced resources.
