Employees and Users Attitudes About Services of Digital Library Project at Beni-Suef University : A Survey Study

Study Abstract Digital Library Project is considered one of the current topics which appearing with technical revolution during this age. The importance of this study is based on the importance of digital library in its high speed to get information and there are multiple types of information and data with their shapes and their capacities. The success of this type of services cannot be achieved only to take advantage of them. It was necessary to make a survey the employees and users opinions about this service and in addition to their characteristics, their attitudes and their categories in order to find out the difficulties and the problems which they have faced and try to face them. And therefore this study is considered a feedback to manage the Digital Library Project at Beni-Suef University that may help organizers the supreme Council of Universities. The most important findings of the study • Those who prefer to work in the Digital Library Project are 77.8% from the sample of the study (employees),but those who do not prefer to work in the Digital Library Project are 22.2% .And those who are satisfied with work controlled by Digital Library Project are 75%, and This is a good singe . • The sample of the study of the employees show that, the Union Catalog simplify 100% of the process of surfing, and its results; 75% of inventory and 83.35% of borrowing. 63.9% of the study samples (employees) inform that there are difficulties in working with Digital Repository that presents in slow internet, the need of training courses, there is no required preparing. It is difficult to upload to Digital Repository and some of them face difficulties to work with Digital Repository because they are not specialized. • The suggestions and proposals from the study sample of employees in the digital library are multiplied and presented the interest in training courses and provide the necessary work on the system and devices and updated on a regular basis and maintenance of devices and to increase financial resources devices. Increased financial motivation for employees of the project and develop the infrastructure of the internet in the university libraries. • The study reveals that 60.2% of the study sample of users believe that the digital library information sources meets their scientific and searching needs, while 39.8% believe that they do not meet their scientific and searching needs. • The study also reveals that the proposals of the study sample of users to improve the e-journals and academic service marked by the increasing availability of patrols and the development of research strategies and an arrangement for all specialties to facilitate research, according to specialization. • The study shows that the most important disadvantages of available databases through the digital library project (as seen from the study sample of users) are that the databases are not updated efficiently with 47.7% of the study sample. Then there is not enough coverage for all information sources by 34.3% .followed by lack of access to older versions of periodicals by 22.3% , they also show that obstacles that limit the use of available databases through the project is the lack of personal knowledge of the potential of those rules by 69.6% may be the reason of this lack of available training courses to the users. • The study shows that more difficulties are faced by the users of the digital library project from the point of view of the study sample of beneficiaries is a slow process of internet connection or disconnection by 72.1% , The inability to deal with digital technology by 69.6% .the next thing is the lack of training programs on the use of digital library by 59.2%.The forth point it is difficult to provide the full text of some articles that results from the research 37.3%. • The majority of the study sample by 75.6% informs that they are satisfied with digital library project and services in general, while 24.4% show that they are not satisfied. • The suggestions and proposals from the study sample of beneficiaries the digital library are multiplied and presented the interest in training courses and remind it, raise awareness of their services, how to use them and the continuous update and increase the speed of the internet connection , Participate in the largest amount of databases and increase the availability of e-journals , make digital library available on permanent basis with a continuous support , and make a permanent evaluation of the library through beneficiaries to find out their concerns and according to that try to improve the services provided by the library.
