Beni Suef University Hospitals successfully saved a patient's eye from blindness through a rare

Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, announced the success of a medical team in the Department of Ophthalmology at the university hospitals in In a rare and delicate surgical procedure, a 30-year-old patient was saved from permanent blindness after suffering a spontaneous rupture of the eye. The surgery was performed under the supervision of Dr. Hani Hamed, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the hospitals, Dr. Emad El-Banna, Executive Director of the hospitals, and Dr. Hossam El-Din Khalil, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology
The university president affirmed that this achievement reflects the qualitative development witnessed by Beni Suef University hospitals in providing advanced medical services to the people of Upper Egypt, noting that the operation is one of the delicate surgeries that are being performed for the first time at this level within the university hospital, where a "fresh amniotic membrane" was used to graft the cornea, which enabled the patient to regain vision at a rate of 6/9 after he had only been able to see the shadow of the hand
For his part, Dr. Hani Hamed, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, explained that the case presented a significant medical challenge, as the patient suffered from the anterior chamber emptying due to severe corneal erosion, necessitating urgent surgical intervention to save the eye. He commended the competence of the medical team, which included Dr. Fatima Mohamed Diab and Dr. Mahmoud Adel Badawi, assistant professors in the Department of Ophthalmology
Dr. Mohamed Ragab, a resident physician in the department, along with the anesthesia team, which included resident physicians Dalia Abdo and Abdullah Ahmed, and with the outstanding assistance of the nursing team, including Mr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz and Mr. Mahmoud Hussein, were instrumental in the successful treatment.
Dr. Emad El-Banna, the hospital's executive director, also expressed his gratitude to the medical team for their competence in handling this critical case.
