The President of Beni Suef University inaugurates a project to plant 5,000 mahogany trees in the university's colleges in cooperation with the Rotary Club.

Dr. Tarek Ali, Acting President of Beni Suef University, inaugurated today a project to plant 5000 mahogany trees Within the university's colleges, a ceremony was held at the Faculty of Agriculture, attended by Dr. Abdel Latif Hesham, Dean of the Faculty; Mr. Hossam Farhat, Governor of the Rotary Club; Dr. Heba Abdel Azim, Head of the Club's Beni Suef branch; Mr. Mustafa Tharwat, Assistant Governor; Ms. Amal Safwat, Club Secretary; Mr. Mohamed Selim, University  General Secretary ; and a number of faculty members and club members

The project is sponsored by Skylines Company, represented by Engineer Abbas Yassin, and the Farah Message Foundation, headed by Sister Athanasia, as part of their support for environmental initiatives and to raise community awareness about the importance of afforestation and environmental conservation

For his part, the university president expressed his delight at launching this initiative, emphasizing that the university's afforestation project, which involves planting 5,000 trees, represents an important step towards achieving sustainable development and improving the university environment. He added that it reflects the university's commitment to promoting environmental awareness among students and the local community, and expressed his hope for further cooperation with civil society organizations on projects that serve the environment and education

Dr. Abdel Latif Hesham emphasized the importance of the initiative, expressing his pride that the Faculty of Agriculture was the starting point for this ambitious project. He noted that it reflects the faculty's role in serving the community and the environment, and represents a practical opportunity for students to apply their learning in real-world settings

Mr/ Hossam Farhat pointed out that this initiative falls within the club's community outreach efforts, stressing the importance of partnerships with educational institutions in supporting environmental issues. He added that this initiative serves as a model of fruitful cooperation, which they hope will extend to other projects that benefit the community and the environment

It is worth noting that mahogany is one of the finest tropical timber trees, distinguished by its hard, brown wood, which is widely used in the manufacture of luxury furniture, doors, and boats. This tree thrives in warm, humid regions, making it an ideal choice for afforestation and environmental improvement projects. It also contributes to carbon dioxide absorption and air quality improvement, enhancing its environmental and economic value
