Under the patronage of Dr. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni Suef University, the Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants organized a symposium entitled “Using Mechanization in Developing Medicinal and Aromatic Plants”, in the presence of Dr. Adel Gouda, Dean of the Institute, Dr. Mustafa Abdo, Head of the Production Department, a group of faculty members, assistant staff, and a number of farmers, investors, and exporters of medicinal and aromatic plants in Beni Suef Governorate.
The university president explained that the symposium included discussions on the use of mechanization in the cultivation and production of medicinal and aromatic plants and identifying the latest machines and equipment dedicated to the cultivation and care of medicinal and aromatic plants, which benefit farmers, reduce production costs and obtain the high quality required for export markets. He stressed the importance of the symposium in the interaction between the academic community, farmers and investors and linking scientific research to industry. That contributed greatly to benefiting from the outputs of scientific research in the field in which the governorate is distinguished and working to increase its production capacity.
For his part, Dr. Adel Gouda referred to the symposium’s recommendations, the most prominent of which was to develop solutions for the multiple collection and harvesting of chamomile, which the governorate is distinguished by its preservation using the mechanized farming method, and the necessity of holding extensive meetings between those interested in the fields of medicinal and aromatic plants to find solutions that facilitate the work of agricultural mechanization, as well as the use of mechanization in post-harvest transactions, removing leaves and flowers, drying and packaging.
