Copyright Protection in the Web Age: A Comparative Analytical Study

Research Abstract

Before the World Wide Web, Users accessed the information through books, periodicals, CDs and sometimes through on-line databases, and there are few copies of these sources and resources are available in libraries, and a set of reference books are high or low cost. with the growth of the Internet, the method of obtaining information has changed, and nearly all of these sources are available on the web in electronic format. the publishing process is not also limited only to publishers, but also individuals and institutions can publish on the Internet. There are varied sources of information available on the Internet, including periodicals, journals, and business papers, newspapers, books, library catalogs, dictionaries, maps, technical reports, encyclopedias, patents, institutions and governments sites, and other old and new sources of information which are available on the Web. technology allowed access to these remote services, as several users can access available information in electronic form at one time, and sometimes available for free without any cost. Web 2.0 has changed the web added services - such as social networking sites, wikis, blogs and feedback to Site Summary rich (RSS)- the way of cooperation between users and participation. Web 2.0 allows users ease of use content and control it, and this increases the risk of violating the current law of protection Authors rights, data protection, and other laws relating to intellectual property, and there may be an increase in the use of different licensing models for asset protection, with an increase in the requirements of the standards, that refer to the growing increase in the number of users. Web 2.0 face the same legal restrictions that Web 1.0 faced before, but so much increase in social networking; as increases the risk of violating regulations and laws. There is a wide range of scientific studies and articles that attempt to explore the techniques of ًWeb 2.0 to get to the problems that may face users during using this technique, and there are also a number of articles that focus on how they were implementing these technologies in libraries and disadvantages and advantages, so this study try to focus on all the problems and issues that may face users during using Web 2.0 techniques and tools, in an attempt to find solutions to these issues, with the analysis of the problems related to the application of these tools in the library and information community, as libraries and information centers have to use these tools to keep pace with modern developments. eventually this study attempts to set some of the proposed solutions for libraries, which can be followed in order to avoid some of these problems.
