Semantic Digital Libraries Systems: an Analytical and Comparative Study

Research Abstract

Computers have caused revolutionary changes in all spheres of life, and The traditional libraries transferred to digital libraries that have made the acquisition of knowledge more efficient and organized, so digital libraries have to be more than the form of a central organizer of the information, and represent the essence of the connection, which was originally part aspects of the face-to-face interaction between users in traditional libraries. Digital libraries allow easy access to the information required at any time, but the search is inefficient, as they don't provide meaningful data to users as a result of their inquiry, the information often is copyrighted; and the data also is fixed, so users can't ost their opinions or experiences . The Term of Digital Semantic Library followed the emergence of the digital library with the spread of the technology of Web 2.0, to allow direct and meaningful, as it allows users the ability of access to the information required without accurate research term. This model of integrated information is based on different data descriptors which provide more meaningful data. These semantic libraries tend to provide a better and more convenient form rather than browsing interfaces. The digital semantic libraries allow finding information more easily in the enormous amount of data available, and this refers to the availability of ontology-based search; which is not limited to a single digital library, but also provides a mechanism to move from different libraries systems. Sometimes it is necessary to convert existing data descriptors of digital libraries to the semantic level, and digital libraries and government agencies may not save their data, So there are many digital semantic libraries systems, which try to develop integration of metadata and services to increase availability, and encourages collaborative activities, users' participation and exchange of information. The recent study focus on six of these systems, Fedora, Greenstone, JeromeDL, Simile, Bricks, and Talia, then compared the six systems.
