The impact of demographic factors on the degree of the university teacher's commitment to ethical standards in the performance of academic work and its impact on the level of quality:"An empirical Study on the Beni-Suef University"
Research Abstract
The current study seeks to reach the most important ethical standards that must be adhered to by workers in educational organizations and specially university teacher, studying the nature of the relationship between demographic factors of the university teacher and degree of his commitment to these ethical standards in the performance of his university, the extent of the difference between the perception levels of both students and members of teaching staff to the degree of moral obligation of the university teacher, and finally to study the nature of the relationship between the level of students' perception of the extent of the ethical standards of university teacher commitment and the level of perceived quality. The study was applied on two sub-communities: the first: Students enrolled in all school grades in the practical colleges of Beni- Sues university, because there is a direct relationship between these students and staff members of these colleges, the second: staff members in all faculties which have been specified , it was taken into account in their choice within the research community to be those in charge of teaching these students, then a random sample was selected of the two sub-communities separately, where the total sample size of students was (372) elements, where as the total sample size of staff members was (208) elements. The sample size within each college was specified by the method of proportional distribution. The number of collected questionnaires that were valid for statistical analysis of students reached (370) questionnaires with a response rate of 92%, while the number of collected questionnaires that were valid for statistical analysis of staff members reached (202) questionnaires with a response rate of 84.8%. The study has found out that the most important ethical standards that must be adhered to by the teacher at the university work environment are seven ethical standards: Standard of mutual confidence, standard of cooperation, standard of good treatment, standard of continual incentives, standard of conviction of work, standard of innovation, and finally standard of control and continual evaluation. There is a strong and significant positive relation of effect and correlation between each of the income, experience and age of university teacher on the one hand and the degree of commitment to ethical standards in general on the other hand. While there is no correlation between each of the marital status and gender of the university teacher on the one hand, and the degree of commitment to ethical standards in general on the other hand as they were proved to be weak and insignificant relationships. The most demographic factors that influence the degree of commitment to ethical standards of university teacher are the age factor, followed by the experience factor and then the income factor. There is an increase in perception levels of the staff members to the degree of commitment of the university teacher to ethical standards in general, comparatively with the perception levels of Students of this commitment. The perception levels of Students to the quality of the university teacher were generally moderate levels. Finally there is a strong and significant positive relation of effect and correlation between perception levels of Students to ethical standards for teacher university and dimensions of perceived quality as a whole .The most effective standards of ethical commitment on levels of quality perceived are standard of control and continual evaluation , Standard of mutual confidence, standard of continual incentives, standard of cooperation, standard of innovation, standard of conviction of work, and finally standard of good treatment.
