Master Title

Pharmacognostical study of Dracocephalum moldavica L. Family Labiatae cultivated in Egypt

Master Abstract

A phytochemical study of the aerial parts of Dracocephalum moldavica L. family Labiatae led to the isolation and identification of seven compounds; ß-amyrin, ß-sitosterol, stigmasterol, oleanolic acid, ursolic acid, apigenin and rosmarinic acid. They were isolated using several chromatographic techniques and identified with spectroscopic analyses (IR, NMR and MS) in addition to comparison with reported data.

PHD Title

Phytochemical Study of Cassia brewsteri growing in Egypt

PHD Abstract

ABSTRACT Tannin content in the seeds, leaves and stems extracts of Cassia brewsteri B., Family Fabaceae were found to be the highest in seeds (8.75g%) followed by leaves(6.25g %) and stems(3.75g%) when determined gravimetrically. Three known tannin compounds were isolated for the first time from the acetone extract of the seeds and were identified by their chemical and spectral data as; epiafzelechin-(4ß?8, 2ß?O?7)- afzelechin (geranin A) 1, (-)- epiafzelechin 2 and guibourtinidol-(4ß?8)- epiafzelechin 3. Flavonoid content in the seeds, leaves and stems extracts were found to be highest in leaves (1.013g%), followed by stems (0.226 g%), and seeds (0.155 g%) when determined spectrophotometrically as rutin. Four known flavonoid compounds were isolated for the first time from the ethyl acetate fractional extract of the leaves and were identified by their chemical and spectral data as; quercetin 4, kaempferol-3-O-ß-D-glucoside (astragalin) 5, quercetin-3-O-a-L-rhamnosy(l?6)ß-D-glucoside (rutin) 6, kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside 7. Key words: Cassia brewsteri, Tannin, Flavonoids
