Prevalence of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity & Behavioral Disorders Among School Aged Children in Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic at El-Mabarra Hospital Sharkia Governorate
Master Abstract
Attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder ADHD is a group of chronic disorders
that being in childhood and sometimes last into adult life. Problems
generally associated with ADHD include inattention, hyperactivity and
impulsive behavior. It is affect nearly every aspect of life. The
estimated prevalence ranging from two to five percent of school aged
children. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the prevalence
of ADHD among school aged children in out-patient psychiatric clinic at
health insurance of El-Mabarra Hospital, Sharkia Governorate. A
descriptive survey design was utilized in this study. A sample of
convenience of 352 child with behavioral disorders coming to the above
mentioned setting were recruited for this study. Three tools were used
for data collection; Sociodemographic/Medical Data Sheet, Behavioral
Disorders Checklist, and Vanderbilt ADHD Diagnostic Parent Rating Scale.
Findings of this study indicate that, two point eight percent of the
children were hyperactive according to both Wender and Vanderbilt
Scales. Children with ADHD had statistically significantly more family
history of ADHD. To concluded, ADHD is one of the most commonly
diagnosed psychiatric disorder among school aged children, the most
prevalent subtype is the inattentive type. The study recommended that,
collaboration between health team and nurses must be done for early
recognition, assessment and management of ADHD. This can redirect the
educational and psychosocial development of most children with ADHD

An Educational Intervention Concerning Violence Related Attitudes, Behaviors and Influences among Adolescents
PHD Abstract
Violence
against adolescents is understood as being any sort of mistreatment of
adolescents within or outside of the family environment. The aggressor
inflicts light or severe damage, the causes of which can be related to
individual, family, socioeconomic, environmental or cultural factors.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of implementing an
educational intervention concerning violence among adolescents.
Assessment was done for (500) students from seven prep-schools (one
school from each educational sector) in Beni Sueif Governorate to assess
violence-related attitudes and behaviors among adolescents and assess
factors that lead to violence related attitudes and behaviors among
adolescents. One school was selected randomly from the seven school of
seven educational sectors’ to implement the program. The sample
consisted of 138 students. Four main tools were used for data
collection; Individual Adolescent Characteristics as: Sociodemographic
questionnaire, Attitude toward Violence Scale, Aggression Scale and
Leisure Activity Teen Conflict Survey, Family Characteristics (Family
Relationship Characteristics Scale), School Characteristics (Classroom
Climate Scale) and Community Characteristics (Children’s Exposure to
Community Violence Scale). The program has succeeded in inducing
statistically significant improvement in the study samples' attitude
toward violence, aggressive behavior, and prevalence of cohesion was
detected among 20% of the studied children had positive awareness toward
reporting of violent behavior to school personnel after implementation
of the program. Nurses must work to increase awareness and develop the
skills of both teachers and parents, to use alternatives other than the
corporal punishment.
