Intern Nurses Civility and Professionalism as Perceived by Nursing Staff and Intern Nurses

Master Abstract

Abstract Background: Civility is a fundamental value of nursing profession as the nurses should possess moral qualities and traits of courtesy to enhance level of professionalism. The study aimed to assess the intern nurses civility and professionalism as perceived by nursing staff and intern nurses. Design: Descriptive comparative correlational design was utilized to conduct this study. Setting: The study was conducted in the clinical training setting of intern nurses at Benha and Beni suef University Hospitals. Subjects: Random sample consisted of 362 nursing staff and 86 intern nurses at the above mentioned study. Tools: consisted of two tools: (I) The intern nurses civility questionnaire and II) The intern nurses professionalism questionnaire. Results: showed that the intern nurses at both hospitals had a high perception regarding their civility and professionalism, while the nursing staff at both hospitals had a low perception regarding intern nurses civility and professionalism. Conclusion: this study concluded that there was a statistical significant positive correlation between the intern nurses civility and professionalism among intern nurses and nursing staff at Beni suef and Benha University Hospitals. Recommendations: the study recommended that intern nurses should seek to develop themselves through reading books and articles about nursing updates and nursing professionalism, also recommended that conducting a training program to enhance and promote civility for both intern nurses and nursing staff, also conducting a study to identify factors affecting professionalism among nursing students.
