Smart phones and their effects in promoting information literacy skills in Beni ? Suef University community: A field study

Master Abstract

The summary The present century has witnessed tremendous developments in different fields and the most important of them are the fields of information and communication technology as the concept of informatic culture has been stood out as a result for these developments , its direct impact on the availability of information , the human need for dealing it, its usage its retrieval. Thus was kept up a technological development which isn't less important than the previous which is the smart phone. The smart phone is considered one of the most important technological developments which the communication revolution has made for transforming and exchange data in all its forms. The universities and faculties which are considered as an intellectual cultural research centers has an effective role in instilling the principles of informatic culture among the members of the teaching staff , The researchers and the students, And thus for being capable of achieving the balance between the informatic culture on one hand , and using the technology of smart phone in order to expand the field of information production, its management, its dissemination and its distribution on the other hand. So that this study seeks to identify smart phones and their impact on enhancing informatic culture skills for Beni Suef University community, and for achieving this goal, the following sub-targets should be achieved: 1- Providin a theoretical framework which reveals the concepts that are related to smart phones and informatic culture. 2- Studying the trends of Beni Suef University community for using smart phones. 3- Defining the role of smart phones in strengthen the informatic culture skills for Beni Suef University community. 4- Identifying the challenges and the difficulties that enciuntering Beni Suef University community about using smart phones. 5- Comparing the impact of smart phones in strengthen the informatic culture skills for each first undergraduate students, researchers and the members of Beni Suef University teaching staff. 6- Drawing up solutions, imaginations and proposals which help in developing the informatic culture skills for Beni Suef University community according to the view point of the researchers themselves through using smart phones. The study depended on a field survey approach to study the impact of smart phones on strengthen the informatic culture skills for Beni Suef University community and the sample included the members of Beni Suef teaching staff, the researchers (Master and Ph.D.) at Beni Suef faculties and institutes, fourth undergraduate students of Arts and Sciences faculties, and also the study depended on data collection tools which is the questionnaire, that has been distributed to the study community, 562 questionnaire has been retrieved, are valid for analysis, SPSS programme has been used to calculate duplicates, percentages and the relativity importance, , and to test the individual variance to illustrate the differences between the three categories. The study showed several results, the most important of them, that all the sample of study of first undergraduate students, the researchers and the members of teaching staff have smart phones, Despite the existence of variation in the educational and functional stage, 3 hours by 37.5%, and that the reason for the acquisition of the smartphone is more in communication with others by 85.2%, and the main motives for searching for information is the search for study by 66.4%, and that the information culture in the sample of the study may help them to make the right decisions H Scientific research problems by 85.8%, and agreed on the nature of the information they are looking for is the search for scientific information approved for specialization by 65.8%, and that research through the smartphone is useful and develop skills and research capacity by 88.1%, and applications of social networking and chat is one of the most important applications that Of the study sample was one of the most attractive things during this period by 93.1%. The most difficult difficulties faced by the study when using the smart phone was the slow process of internet connection by 72.4%. The most important suggestions of the study sample in developing the skills of information culture By smart university community made using phones, the availability of applications on smart phones to search the information and follow up on all issues in the field of specialization by 77%. The most important recommendations of the study are: workshops and symposia to discuss how to enhance the use of smart phone applications in obtaining information, and to educate the university community about the correct and incorrect information and behavior, teaching the building and design of smart phone applications in the programming courses in libraries and information, The application was developed by the researcher on the site of Beni Suef University or the electronic store, so that the university's users can download them on their mobile phones and use them to enhance the skills of their information culture.
