Professional Federations and Associations and their services in field of Library and Information science

Master Abstract

This thesis aims at recognizing the professional federations and associations in the field of library and information science , whether these federations are : international , regional or national . Also it aims to recognizing all the activities of these federations offer to serve this field . The study also attempts to show the Arab associations and know their achievements and stimulate the Arab librarians; individuals and establishments to benefit from the professional associations in the developed countries . consequently the field will promote in the Arab world to cope with world levels . It can be said that the conclusions of the study have reached their aims and showed the relative absence of library associations in Arab countries compared with developed countries and library associations presented in some Arab countries have helped to support library movement their . also the study has came to keep in the international and regional federations working in the field which reach seventy six in number and also national associations which reach 512 in number in the different countries of the world . The study has proved that the presence of professional federations and associations is one of the main causes that led to the progress of library and information science in general because of their activities and services they offer.

The Information Society: Its Economic and Technological Basis with measuring the growth of informational manpower in a sample of developed and developing countries.

PHD Abstract

This study aims to analyze the information society and its different concepts, specially its economic and technological bases, outlining its specific properties that distinguish it from agricultural, industrial or service societies. The study aims also to analyze the other different measures of information society and information sector. The study concludes the digital divide between developed and developing countries. Finally this study indicates the Egyptian information society position among other societies. Conclusions of the study proved many results among them: 1- The economic dimension of the information society is the most important one and is based on the presence of effective information sector. 2- The digital divide is considered one of the main problems facing the world in 21st there are several subdivisions of this digital divide which includes ethical, economic, and scientific aspects that we can't forget. 3- Bridging the digital divide between developed and developing countries is an important aspect of building the global information society. 4- Most Arab countries suffer from weak information and communication technologies infrastructure beside the absence of clear polices at both national and regional levels. 5- Egyptian information society cannot be achieved without pushing forward the information sector to cope with the developed countries beside helping all citizens to reach knowledge resources and their utilization.
